Mr Schütter has over 30 years of experience in banking and risk management. Following his studies at the Universities of Zurich and Hong Kong, Hansruedi started out as a foreign exchange and money market dealer for Barclays Bank International and Swiss Bank Corporation in Switzerland, New York, Hong Kong and Singapore. In 1991 he left the trading room and moved to SBC’s Corporate Center in Zurich, where he used his experience and knowledge to develop tools that benefited the traders. Three years later, he briefly returned to Singapore as regional market risk controller for FX and interest rate products. Hansruedi returned to Zurich at the end of 1995 to build up Credit Suisse’s settlement risk management. Within a year, he expanded his focus to become Credit Suisse’s first Group Operational Risk Manager. In this function, he actively participated in industry meetings and initiatives, and as a member of the IIF (Institute of International Finance) Working Group on Operational Risk (WGOR), had an active dialogue with the regulatory community on the shape of the Revised Capital Accord (Basel II). (That’s where they met with Dr Kyriacou who at the time had a similar role working for BNP Paribas banking group.) Since 2003, he has been working out of Zurich, Bucharest and Hong Kong. In the course of his activities, he has done training and consulting in many parts of Asia, Europe and Africa and lectured for senior management offsites of major Chinese banks. He is accredited as a trainer with the IFC and one of the major development banks for whom he did scenario risk assessments.
